Throughout the offseason, Mond and Nick Starkel competed for the starting quarterback job. Fisher ultimately went with Mond, a true sophomore, and explained why on the SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday.
Fisher pointed out that been very consistent in his play, played well from the pocket and had the overall better camp. The first-year coach said he’s proud of the work Mond did in the offseason.

Junior RB Trayveon Williams said he and his teammates are itching to play in front of the 12th Man again.
“It’s an exciting feeling, being able to go back out there and compete,” Williams said. “Whenever you’re able to be in front of Kyle Field, it’s always a great feeling. We have the best fans in the world, best fans in the country, and those, and those guys are going to come out there and give us their all every day. I’m excited to be able to go back out there in front of them so they can see this new team.”
Veteran players have had to adjust to more intense practices under Fisher.
“It has been intense, but at the same time, it’s that intensity that’s going to bring out the best in this team,” Williams said. “This team is ready, this team has been competing and this team is ready to go out there and be the best that we can be. This university deserves it, this community deserves it, and we’re going to give it to them.”
