Texas A&M’s dead period recruiting grades

Texas A&M has been crushing the recruiting circuit since Kevin Sumlin came to town, and they’re in line for another top-notch recruiting class in this circuit. After a strong junior college national signing day, the Aggies are up to No. 4 in 247sports’ industry composite rankings.

Offense: A+ (9 commits)

The Aggies are going to have plenty of competition on offense next fall. After getting the top quarterback in the country last fall, A&M pulled in the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in the country in Kyler Murray, who is already drawing comparisons to Johnny Manziel for his playing style. The Aggies landed five-star receiver Christian Kirk from the Scottsdale, Ariz. area on Wednesday, bolstering an already impressive receiving corps that’s bursting with talent. A factory for offensive linemen the last few years, the Aggies are bringing in three four-star linemen and a three-star center.

Defense: A (11 commits)

Texas A&M needs a serious infusion of talent on the defensive side, and they should be getting it with this class. Five-star Daylon Mack is rated as the No. 4 defensive tackle in the country and the No. 3 recruit in Texas and should help plug up some of the holes in the Aggies’ run defense immediately. This recruiting class contains two four-star safeties and a four-star cornerback, helping to bolster the weak back line of the defense, and junior college transfers OLB Claude George and S Justin Evans should be able to get on the field quickly.

Recruiting needs

The Aggies could still use a few running back recruits to stock their depth. All three of the team’s top rushers in 2014 were juniors, and while all are expected back they’ll leave a big hole after 2015. They also have just two defensive line commits so far, leaving them a little short at a position of need.
