The No. 10 Texas A&M Aggies picked up their biggest win of the season this past weekend, knocking off the then No. 8-ranked Notre Dame Irish on the road by a final score of 41-40.

The Aggies went on the road to one of the most iconic venues in all of college football and walked out with a program-defining victory that is arguably the biggest of second-year head coach Mike Elko‘s tenure down in College Station.

Elko put on a coaching masterclass against Notre Dame, and he was just named the Paul “Bear” Bryant Awards National Coach of the Week for leading the Aggies to victory up in South Bend.

The massive road win also landed Elko the honor of being named the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Week, and vaulted the Aggies all the way up to the No. 10 ranking in this week’s AP Poll.

Elko was viewed by many as a questionable hire when Texas A&M tabbed him to replace former head coach Jimbo Fisher, but he has quickly proven to be the right man for the job.

He had the Aggies in contention for a spot in College Football Playoff for most of 2024, and he now appears to have A&M on track to make a run at their first-ever SEC Championship in 2025.
