Steve Sarkisian may have just lost his team’s leading tackler.

Multiple outlets are reporting that Texas linebacker Juwan Mitchell has entered the transfer portal. Entering the transfer portal does not bind a player to transfer out but allows the player to be contacted and recruited by other programs.

As a junior, Mitchell led the Longhorns defense with 62 total tackles in 2020, including 4.5 tackles for loss, a quarterback hurry, a pass breakup and a fumble recovery.

Mitchell arrived at Texas in 2019 as a transfer from Butler Community College in Kansas. Over the past two seasons at Texas, he appeared in 21 games, making 13 starts.

Texas opens its 2021 season at home against Louisiana on Sept. 4 and travels to Arkansas the following week.
