Texas took care of business against the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday, winning by a score of 35-13. With the win, the Longhorns moved to 5-0 on the season heading into their bye. Up next is the Red River Rivalry game against the Oklahoma Sooners on Oct. 12.
For both sides, that game likely can’t come fast enough.
After Saturday’s win, edge defender Colin Simmons made some comments after the game that will be sure to get the Sooners’ attention.
“OU, I mean they got a good squad this year,” Simmons told reporters after the game. “A lot of the players on the team that I know. I feel like we are going to dominate them. At the end of the day, we just got to trust in coaches and get better each day.”

Simmons was definitely feeling himself after the game against the Bulldogs, as he had the best game of his career. He had 7 tackles and 2 sacks. Through 5 games, he has 18 tackles and 4 sacks.
While the Longhorns figure to be favored in the matchup with the Sooners (4-1), they were favored by 4.5 points last year and lost the game.
It is always a classic game when these 2 teams play, as this is truly as good of a rivalry as there is in college football. It is always chippy and personal, and you can bet Brent Venables and his staff will remind the Sooners what Simmons said.
