Texas earned a verbal commitment from Machester (Ga.) High defensive lineman Justus Terry on Friday. Shortly after, the school officially announced his signing.

The 6-foot-5, 275-pound defender chose Texas over Georgia and Auburn. In doing so, he ensured Texas of its first No. 1 recruiting class in the 247Sports era. Terry becomes the fifth 5-star prospect to sign with the program this cycle.

In the industry-generated 247 Composite, Terry ranks as the No. 2 defensive lineman in the class and the No. 3 prospect from the state of Georgia. He’s the 10th-ranked recruit in the country, regardless of position.

Terry initially committed to Georgia in January of 2023. In March 2024, he flipped that pledge to USC. Three months later, he backed off that pledge. Terry made official visits to Georgia, Florida State, and Alabama over the summer. He also took an OV to Texas in October and Auburn in late November. Several insiders at 247Sports considered him a Georgia lean, but Texas ultimately won the day.

As a junior in 2023, Terry was a second-team Junior All-American selection by MaxPreps after helping Manchester to a state championship game. He produced 78 tackles, 13 sacks, 2 pass breakups, and 2 forced fumbles.
