On Thursday, Texas landed a transfer commitment from former Wake Forest offensive tackle Melvin Siani.
The 6-foot-6, 302-pound lineman revealed his transfer decision to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. According to Demon Deacon Digest, Siani’s transfer move was a shock to Wake Forest. He had previously signed a deal to remain with Wake Forest for the 2026 season, but entered the portal only hours earlier on Thursday with a “do not contact” tag.
Wake Forest will reportedly pursue a buyout for the breached agreement. According to the report from Demon Deacon Digest, Texas is paying upwards of $2 million for Siani’s services.
Siani spent 1 season at Wake Forest and 2 seasons at Temple before that. He appeared in 4 games as a true freshman in 2023, then made 9 starts in 2024, first at right tackle and then at left tackle later in the year.
In 2025, Siani started all 13 games for the Demon Deacons at left tackle. He ended the season with a pass-blocking grade of 80.7 from PFF, allowing only 9 quarterback pressures in more than 450 pass-pro snaps. He did not allow a single sack.
As a pass protector, Siani was the sixth-highest-graded offensive tackle in the ACC last season (among qualified players). He was one of just 13 power conference tackles to see more than 400 snaps in pass protection and not allow a single sack.
The Texas offensive line is being reworked after a season in which the Longhorns struggled mightily to move the ball on the ground. As a group, the Texas line also graded out as the 42nd-ranked unit in the country in pass protection.
Derek Peterson does a bit of everything, not unlike Taysom Hill. He has covered Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Pac-12, and now delivers CFB-wide content.
