The Texas Longhorns pulled off a Signing Day heist against an in-state rival on Wednesday.
The Longhorns added 4-star linebacker Tyanthony Smith. Smith had been committed to the Texas A&M Aggies since June. On the first day of the Early Signing Period, Smith decided to decommit from the Aggies and flip to the Longhorns.

Per the 247Sports Composite ranking, Smith was rated as a 4-star prospect. Smith is slotted in as the No. 54 prospect out of Texas, the No. 28 linebacker, and the No. 339 overall prospect in the class. Smith starred for Jasper High School. The prospect mainly played linebacker but also received significant snaps as a Wildcat quarterback.
Smith is part of a Longhorns’ class that currently ranks No. 5 in the nation. The class is highlighted by four 5-stars: Ryan Wingo, Colin Simmons, Brandon Baker, and Xavier Filsaime. Simmons is the only natural linebacker in the class, so the flip of Smith could end up being a huge get for the Longhorns.
With Early Signing Day wrapping up, the Longhorns will shift focus to the College Football Playoff. The Longhorns will kick off against the Washington Huskies in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day.
