Texas is reportedly looking into the SEC to possibly fill its men’s basketball coaching vacancy.

Travis Branham of 247Sports reported that Texas has made contact with John Calipari through back channels, and Branham added that he believes Calipari will jump at the opportunity to leave Lexington if Texas makes a competitive offer.

Texas last week fired coach Chris Beard as it told his attorney he is “unfit” for the position while he faces a felony domestic family violence charge that stems from a Dec. 12 incident involving his fiancée.

Kentucky insider Matt Jones offered his analysis on the situation: The question of whether he is interested or would take it, to me, is still a long way from being answered. … If Calipari left, he would almost certainly take the entire UK recruiting class (outside of Reed Sheppard). That would be a huge blow…but in the transfer portal era, whoever was the new coach could definitely build a team. Still think is very unlikely Calipari would leave … I do think this is important to realize Whenever Calipari leaves, any year, he will leave us with no players. That’s the Calipari bargain He gets you good REALLY fast. But his players come for him and when he leaves you restart. It’s coming for UK one day, just matter of when.
