Gainesville, Florida-native Will Muschamp was all-too-familiar with being on the losing side of the Florida-Georgia game. As a UGA football player, he couldn’t beat the Gators. As Florida’s coach, he couldn’t beat the Bulldogs – until 2014. For many Gators fans, the 38-20 win on Nov. 1, 2014 is best remembered by one play: Michael McNeely’s fake field goal.

Florida trailed 7-0 in the second quarter when Muschamp dialed up a trick play, having McNeely, the holder, run with the ball (21 yards for a touchdown) instead of kicking the field goal.

McNeely first walked-on the Florida football time in 2011. Now, in 2019, his time at UF has come to a close. McNeely graduated from UF’s College of Medicine on Saturday. The new doctor is off to complete a family medicine residency at Eglin Air Force Base in the Florida Panhandle, which he talks about with Gators team writer Scott Carter in the story linked in the embedded tweet below.

UF Health recently shared a “Road to Graduation” video where McNeely looks back on his time at Florida in the classroom and on the football field:
