With the weekend slate of games just around the corner, it’s time to share the latest SEC projections from The Power Rank.
If you are unfamiliar with this system, it was created by analytics expert Ed Feng. Feng’s metrics have accurately predicted the winners of college football games from the 2015 season to the 2017 season 73.7 percent of the time — with an overall record of 1679-598. That number is even more impressive when you factor in that The Power Rank does not pick FBS games against FCS competition.
Keeping that last note in mind, Florida’s matchup with Towson this weekend was not predicted by The Power Rank.
The Power Rank accurately predicted seven of the nine SEC games it projected last week.
Here is how The Power Rank predicts the Week 5 action to play out in the SEC:
- Auburn is projected to beat Mississippi State by 7.3 points in this matchup. The Bulldogs have a 29 percent chance of winning this game.
- South Carolina is projected to beat Kentucky by 1.2 points in this matchup. The Wildcats have a 47 percent chance of winning this game.
- Alabama is projected to beat Ole Miss by 27.4 points in this matchup. The Rebels have a four percent chance of winning this game.
- Vanderbilt is projected to beat Northern Illinois by 10.5 points in this matchup. The Commodores have a 78 percent chance of winning this matchup.
- Texas A&M is projected to beat Arkansas by 15.9 points in this matchup. The Razorbacks have a 13 chance of winning this matchup.
