The 2016 NFL regular season does not kickoff until Thursday, which left Sunday night open for yet another college football thriller over the weekend. In what many are calling the greatest opening weekend of college football action ever, the third Top 10 team of the weekend fell in Austin as Texas beat Notre Dame 50-47 in double overtime.

Texas looks to have finally found a quarterback in true freshman Shane Buechele. Despite opening the season in primetime against a marquee opponent, the game wasn’t too big for Buechele – who threw for 280 yards and two touchdowns.

Though the offense wasn’t all Buechele for Texas, as backup quarterback Tyrone Swoopes also played extensively and added the ground dimension to the offense  – rushing for 53 yards and three touchdowns.

If you missed the game, just how wild was it? Notre Dame blocked an extra point and returned it for two points to tie the game. How often do you see that?

After Notre Dame’s second overtime possession ended with a field goal, the Longhorns took over determined to finish the deal. Here was the final play of the game, as Swoopes and Texas wore the Irish down and ended the game on this touchdown play:

However the weekend of upsets isn’t quite finished yet thanks to Monday night’s Florida State-Ole Miss game in Orlando, as the Seminoles enter the game as a Top 10 team entering the contest. Could the Rebels continue the weekend of spoiler action?

If so, look for the Ole Miss to dance its way into the Top 10 poll before the Sept. 17 showdown with No. 1 Alabama.
