At least 3 Missouri players know exactly who they want their next coach to be
Coach Gary Pinkel has likely coached his last game for Missouri unless the team gets chosen to play a bowl game with a 5-7 record, which is still a possibility.
Still, some players had an eye for the future while thinking of the program’s next coach, and at least three of them didn’t think the coaching search needed to extend out of Columbia.
Redshirt senior safety Ian Simon, redshirt junior LB Michael Scherer and junior CB Aarion Penton all showed support for defensive coordinator Barry Odom to replace Pinkel at Mizzou.

Odom — a player at Missouri for four years from 1996-99 — has taken on several roles within the program since 2003. He recently rejoined Missouri to become the school’s defensive coordinator this season after three seasons holding the same position at Memphis.
Here’s a look at Odom’s work experience, which details his numerous positions at Missouri. Entering this week, Missouri ranked 7th in the FBS in scoring defense (15.1 points allowed per game) and ranked 10th in the FBS in total defense (301.3 yards allowed per game).
