Lane Kiffin could be headed south for 2017 and beyond.

Per SB Nation, the 41-year-old Alabama offensive coordinator is the “top target” to replace Willie Taggart as the head coach at South Florida. The report cites Kiffin’s strong personal connections with the Tampa area, including the decade-plus his father, Monte, spent as defensive coordinator of the NFL’s Buccaneers.

On Tuesday, CBS Sports‘ Dennis Dodd confirmed that if Taggart left for Oregon, Kiffin would automatically become the “top choice” to coach the Bulls next season.

Many others seem to believe Kiffin should be on USF’s short list:

This could be the perfect opportunity for Kiffin to return to the head coaching ranks after three highly successful years with the Crimson Tide.
