The worst season in Tim Tebow’s professional baseball career is over.

Mets beat writer for Newsday Tim Healey is reporting that the team has shut Tebow down for the remainder of the season.

Tebow suffered a deep cut to his throwing hand pinky last month, and it won’t heal in time for him to make a return this season. The Mets already expect Tebow to return to 2020. Healey is also reporting that Tebow is currently working out on his own and not with the Mets organization.

It’s a tough ending to a forgettable season for the former football star-turned-slugger. Tebow hit .163 with four home rums and 19 RBIs this year in Triple-A Syracuse. He also logged 98 strikeouts in 77 games. Previously, Tebow’s worst season in the minor leagues came in 2017, his first year. Tebow hit .220 with three bombs and 69 strikeouts in 64 games that season.

Tebow’s 2018 season was also cut short due to a broken hand.

All is not lost for Tebow, however, as his college football season kicks off in three weeks. He’ll be joining Laura Rutledge, Marcus Spears and Paul Finebaum for the SEC Network’s pregame show “SEC Nation.” The show will first visit Georgia at Vanderbilt on August 31.
