On SEC Nation, Tim Tebow made the claim that Mizzou running back Ahmad Hardy is a Heisman Trophy contender.

Through 3 games, Hardy has rushed for 462 yards and 5 touchdowns. He’s had at least 100 yards rushing in every game this season, and in Mizzou’s latest game, Hardy had 22 rushes for 250 yards and 3 touchdowns. Hardy is putting up video game numbers this season.

“But maybe one of the best players in the country that nobody is talking about is Ahmad Hardy,” Tebow said from the SEC Nation desk in Norman. “This dude is a freak … He’s one of the best players in the country. John Mateer, he’s absolutely a Heisman candidate. So is Ahmad Hardy.

“If he does that in SEC play, he’s absolutely a Heisman Trophy contender.”

Hardy spent the last year at UL Monroe before transferring to Missouri. In his lone year at ULM, he rushed for 1,351 yards and 13 touchdowns. He is currently on pace to blow those numbers out of the water and will make an interesting case for the Heisman if he does.

History is on Hardy’s side, as every year that ends in a 5 has had a running back win the Heisman since 1935. The most recent came in 2015, when Alabama running back Derrick Henry won the Heisman Trophy. We will see if Hardy has a chance to keep this streak going.

Hardy’s next chance to add to his season totals will be Saturday as the Tigers take on the South Carolina Gamecocks.
