Todd Gurley’s time in Los Angeles could soon be coming to an end.

It wasn’t that long ago the Rams gave Gurley the richest contract for a running back in NFL history back in the summer of 2018 when the former Georgia standout was given a four-year deal through the 2023 season worth up to $60 million with $45 million guaranteed.

Now less than two years later, the Rams are “currently in discussions regarding a possible trade” of the running back according to Pro Football Talk.

Following the Rams decision to pay Gurley, many in NFL circles have questioned whether giving a running back that much money was a mistake or not. At the time, it certainly bucked the trend of NFL teams deciding against paying huge figures to running backs.

During the 2017 and 2018 seasons, Gurley rushed for over 2,500 yards and 30 touchdowns while catching 124 passes for 1,368 yards and another 10 touchdowns. Gurley’s production has been instrumental in his team’s success as the Rams reached the Super Bowl by the end of the 2018 season.

However, last season Gurley struggled with injuries and rushed for only 857 yards and caught 31 passes for 207 yards and two scores. The result? The Rams missed the playoffs for the first time in three seasons.

Gurley has a base salary of over $13,000,000 next season and represents a cap hit of $17,250,000 for the Rams.
