Todd McShay will be all over ESPN’s networks over the next couple of months. The NFL Combine starts this week in Indianapolis and the 2023 NFL Draft begins on Thursday, April 27, in Kansas City.

One prospect sure to draw plenty of attention from McShay? Alabama QB Bryce Young, who will be in the mix to go No. 1 overall.

Per Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, McShay is a big fan of Young’s game, but also says he’d be scared to death to draft the shorter quarterback:

“I love Bryce Young, I really do,” McShay says. “I know he’s 195 pounds; a really good friend of mine who’s a scout had him at 5’10½”. But I met with him, I’ve talked to him. He’s special. He’s different. He has the poise, the presence in the pocket, the playmaking, everything else you want. I absolutely love Bryce Young. I would bet on him.”

In his next breath, McShay concedes, “If I’m a GM, I’m scared to death of drafting him.”

The Chicago Bears hold the No. 1 pick currently, but are reportedly open to moving down via trade. We’ll see if a team moves up to try to snag Young before the Houston Texans can get him at No. 2.

Adam’s reaction to McShay’s comments

You’re either all-in on Bryce Young or you’re not. His game tape shows a player who played in the most physical conference in college football and was absolutely dominant, winning the 2021 Heisman Trophy and doing everything you could want from a quarterback.

Several players Young played against in the SEC will be first-round draft picks themselves. Young was the best of the best.

As Saturday Down South’s Connor O’Gara wrote, “If Bryce Young’s official measurements change your opinion on him, you’re part of the problem.”

Young has the “it” factor that you can’t teach. He should be the first quarterback off the board in April.
