Tom Hart has called plenty of Alabama games this year for ESPN and the SEC Network, so he’s been treated to the full Crimson Tide roller coaster experience.
After the Tide escaped Nashville with a 74-72 win over Vanderbilt on Tuesday night, they now have an 18-10 overall record.
Hart joined “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning” on WJOX on Wednesday to explain why the Tide are actually better than that record indicates:

“Alabama is good, and can be great when they’re aggressive offensively,” Hart said. “That’s gotta be their personality as a team. But mostly, when you talk about that team, it’s that back court. It’s what Shackelford and Quinerly can do. It’s rare for them to win a game, I think, where Shackelford doesn’t get into double figures. I don’t think their record represents how good they can be, not just the guards, they’ve got a 7-footer in (Charles) Bediako who can do a lot of different things. Now, Nate’s concerned about hiding him in certain matchups defensively. … Alabama’s better than an 18-win team right now. I can’t really put my finger on why they struggle except that it seems to be a confidence issue with some of the guys in the back court.”
Alabama hosts South Carolina on Saturday night. We’ll see if the Tide can pick up another win for their NCAA Tournament resume.
