Did that really just happen?

It’s tough to be surprised in a year where the President of the United States and Lavar Ball are battling over social media, but the past 48 hours of college football did just that. It was insane.

Let’s look back at the past couple of days and help burn the images of this historic weekend into your mind if they aren’t already.

First, let’s go all the way back to Saturday when Auburn upset No. 1 Alabama in the best Iron Bowl game in years. The game was great. The postgame celebration was legendary. Auburn will be fined $250,000 for letting fans rush the field, but it’s worth every penny. Check out these incredible images.

How about the next morning? What a glorious sight:

What a game.

And wow, did we stop talking about it really quickly. That’s because the silly season was ready to kick into high gear.

It started with Bret Bielema getting fired right after the game on Saturday, but that was nothing compared to what would come on Sunday.

Here’s the image of Bielema, one of the most likable coaches in recent memory, walking off the field after the Mizzou game. He was notified that he would not be the coach anymore minutes later. We’ll miss him.

And then, Sunday happened.

After news broke that Tennessee was closing in on making Greg Schiano the next head coach, the fanbase went crazy, fueled by a social media driven mob. Once the on-campus rock looked like this, you knew the deal might fall apart:

On Monday morning, it had a fresh coat of paint. While it wasn’t as dramatic as the day before, it’s still a rough look for the administration:

On a much less dramatic note, Dan Mullen moving from West to East to take the Florida job could be more important long-term than any of the previously mentioned events. Mullen is a proven coach, and if he can get Florida back to competing for conference titles, it has the potential to be a force in college football for years to come.

SEC football has always brought out the crazy, but when you combine 2017 social media with wild fandom down south, you have the potential for the last 48 hours.

One-of-a-kind weekend or new normal? Time will tell.
