Touted Clemson DL Josh Belk announces transfer, reportedly contacted by 2 SEC teams

Clemson DL Josh Belk announced he was transferring from the university via Twitter.

Belk, who enrolled at Clemson in January, is leaving the Tigers’ program due to his mother’s illness, according to The Chester News & Reporter. Dabo Swinney also released Belk with no restrictions on where he could transfer.

In an interview with SportsTalkSC.com, Belk told reporter Phil Kornblut that two SEC programs have already contacted him: South Carolina and Tennessee. Belk even said he’s already spoken to Gamecocks’ assistant Lance Thompson on the phone.

“He was just like make sure I make the right decision and they would love to have me,” Belk said. “And basically just saying the same thing with recruitment.”

Belk plans to enroll at his new school in August, but he’s unsure of exactly which school that is right now. He’s from Richburg, South Carolina, which is just under an hour from Columbia.

He exited high school rated as a 4-star prospect and ranked as the nation’s No. 102 overall player, the nation’s No. 7 overall DT and the state’s No. 2 overall player in the class of 2018, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
