Transferring Florida PG Andrew Nembhard shares farewell note to Gator fans

Many Florida basketball fans were surprised by Saturday’s report about sophomore point guard Andrew Nembhard’s future plans. After testing the NBA Draft waters, it was reported that Nembhard had decided to return to college but leave Mike White’s Gators program and transfer elsewhere.
On Sunday, Nembhard confirmed the report by posting a farewell thank you note on his Twitter account.
“Although my time in Gainesville has come to an end, I appreciate everything that I have achieved as a Gator and I am grateful for all our team accomplishments,” the sophomore wrote. “Florida is a quality basketball program and having a winning record in each of my two seasons there was a great learning experience for me. I truly enjoyed my time at the University of Florida and I developed some personal relationships with coaches, teammates and fellow students that I will cherish for life. I would like to wish the Gator Nation the very best, it has been a pleasure playing for you all.”
Nembhard says the coronavirus pandemic played a factor in his decision to return to college.
“Given the disruption and uncertainty surrounding this year’s NBA Draft process and the NBA season, I felt it would be in my best interest to return to college and focus on continuing to develop as a player and an individual,” he wrote in the opening paragraph.
Nembhard started all 31 games for the Gators in 2019-20, averaging 11.2 points, 5.6 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.1 steals per outing.
UF basketball fans are still closely following Gator guard Tre Mann’s decision on the NBA Draft. On Saturday afternoon, college basketball insider Adam Zagoria tweeted that sources indicated Mann would return to Florida. Later Saturday evening, however, Mann tweeted that the report was not accurate and that he had not come to a final decision about the draft.
