Remember when tickets to the national title game would set you back more than $1,000 just to get into the door?

Well, things aren’t nearly that bad in Arizona today.

At the time this article was published, there were three pairs of tickets in the Northeast Terrance Level Corner section of University of Phoenix Stadium available for tonight’s game for under $200 per ticket on StubHub.com.

The cheapest was listed at $194.95, with the seller receiving less than that due to fees.

It makes sense in some ways.

The installation of the College Football Playoff format adds an extra game to the equation for fan bases. And more costly than the ticket to get into the building is the travel and accommodations for wherever a fan’s favorite team may be playing these games.

Clemson fans would have been expected to make a trip to Miami for the Orange Bowl on New Year’s Eve, and then find the money and time away from work to make a trip to Arizona for the title game 10 days later.

Alabama fans faced much of the same struggles, just replace accommodations to Miami with a trip to the Dallas area instead.

The cost of airfare is likely a key factor keeping many fans of the southeastern schools from heading out west. Getting a discounted rate on airfare would have required purchasing tickets well in advance of the 10-day window fans had following a confirmation that their team would even be involved in this game.

All of this makes for a great ticket market for Phoenix-area locals that want to take in a national title game.
