One of the bigger storylines out of Tuscaloosa this spring was WR Trevon Diggs switching to defensive back.

As the 2017 season approaches, it seems as if the transition is going well, and that Diggs may be able to contribute to the Crimson Tide defense this fall.

According to AL.com, his teammates in the secondary have been impressed with how much he’s improved in such a short time. Minkah Fitzpatrick, an All-American last year, has been helping Diggs in the film room and loves the sophomore’s willingness to learn:

“I played the position before, and he knows I know what I’m doing, so he trusts me asking me questions about it,” said Fitzpatrick. “He’s just soaking it all in and trying to learn.”

Anthony Averett, another Crimson Tide cornerback, agreed with Fitzpatrick, saying Diggs is getting better with every single rep he gets on the field:

“He’s gotten a whole lot better,” Averett said. “He’s getting more experience and practicing more reps. The more reps you get, the better you get. You know how to react to more. You see more. I know that worked for me.”

Rivals.com has Diggs projected to start alongside Averett at cornerback, with Fitzpatrick and Ronnie Harrison manning the safety spots. Speedy DB Tony Brown is projected as the starter at the star position.
