Trey Smith helps Tennessee recruit big-time OL prospect Max Wray

Max Wray, a 2018 offensive lineman recruit who recently de-committed from Georgia, was in Knoxville palling around with current Tennessee lineman Trey Smith on Monday:

Wray, a 6-foot-6, 278-pound tackle, is rated as a four-star recruit, as well as the No. 4 OT and No. 55 overall player in 2018 according to 247Sports Composite.

The Franklin, Tenn., native committed to UGA as a sophomore in 2016 but began to re-think that decision when he paid a visit to Alabama early this month.

The Vols have chosen to bring out the big guns for Wray’s recruitment, and that phrase becomes quite literal as it involves their prized recruit from 2017, Trey Smith. Smith, the No. 14 overall player from 2017 and the Vols’ lone five-star commit, has made an early case as the Vols’ new ambassador following Josh Dobbs’ departure. A fellow in-state commit from Jackson, and a great student in the classroom, Smith has taken the Vol brand to heart since announcing his commitment.

The story gets a little deeper, as Wray’s younger brother Jake is also on the radar as a 2020 prospect. Here’s a photo of the two brothers with Nick Saban from the day of Max’s de-commitment:

If the Wray brothers will be ala carte or a package deal remains to be seen, Tennessee won’t roll over to the likes of Alabama and Georgia, especially on an in-state recruit with family ties to the program.
