The NCAA has reportedly informed Ole Miss that it has denied Trinidad Chambliss’ appeal for a sixth season of eligibility. ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel and others shared the news on Wednesday night.
Chambliss has been campaigning for a medical redshirt for his second season at Division II program Ferris State. With the medical redshirt, he would be able to play a sixth season of college football. Chambliss has already agreed to compensation to play the 2026 season at Ole Miss.
The fight for Chambliss to play in 2026 isn’t over. Thamel notes that attorneys for Chambliss have filed for an injunction at the state court level in Mississippi. The hearing is set for a week from Thursday.
Chambliss’ attorneys have filed for an injunction in state court in Mississippi. That’s expected to be heard on Feb. 12 in Chancery Court. Chambliss is seeking a redshirt year after not playing his second season at Ferris State.

After taking a traditional redshirt in 2021, Chambliss did not play during the 2022 season at Ferris State. He dealt with respiratory issues during the season that ultimately led him to have his tonsils removed. Chambliss enlisted Tom Mars, a prominent attorney who has worked on college sports legal matters over the years, to help make his case for a 6th-year of college football.
