One of the intriguing subplots surrounding Thursday’s College Football Playoff quarterfinals is how players who are participating in the Rose, Sugar, Cotton and Orange Bowls might be considering the transfer portal – which opens Friday.

Among them is Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, who is seeking a medical waiver from the NCAA for the 2022 season at Ferris State. If Chambliss gets that waiver, would receive another season in 2026 and could portal away from the Rebels.

But to where? LSU would certainly be a candidate, as Chambliss excelled under head coach Lane Kiffin and offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. in Oxford and both are now in Baton Rouge with the Tigers.

Chambliss was asked Monday if he had communicated with Kiffin since Kiffin’s infamous departure from Ole Miss, and he said he has not – adding “I don’t think that’s even allowed right now.”

Chambliss has passed for 3,298 yards and 19 touchdowns against just 3 interceptions to lead the Rebels (12-1) to their best regular season in program history and their first CFP berth. He played at Ferris State from 2021-24 before transferring to Ole Miss prior to the 2025 season.

Ole Miss passed their first-round CFP test, downing Tulane 41-10, and faces SEC champion Georgia on Thursday in the Sugar Bowl (8 pm ET, ESPN).
