How soon before Tua Tagovailoa can hit the field?

That’s arguably the biggest question mark of the 2020 NFL Draft after the former star Alabama quarterback injured his hip in mid-November during the Crimson Tide’s trip to Mississippi State last season.

Had he not been injured, there’s a good chance Tagovailoa would currently be battling out Joe Burrow for the right to go No. 1 overall during the upcoming NFL selection process. Instead, Tagovailoa is hoping to simply prove he will be healthy enough to see the field in order to climb back into the discussion as a potential franchise signal-caller.

During a recent interview with USA TODAY Sports at the Super Bowl, Tagovailoa was asked to share the latest on his rehab process.

“Yeah, it’s been a good process. It’s been a hard process at the same time,” Tagovailoa said. “I’d say 16 years of playing football, it’s go, go, go. Now, you know, they’re telling me rest. Just rest. And so the process has been a little different for me, you know, leading up to this point. So, you know, it’s been good though. We’re on our way to 100 percent, as far as recovery.”

When asked how long it would be before he’s back to 100 percent health, Tagovailoa could not give a clear answer but noted that he has an upcoming medical exam that should give more clarity to his recovery process.

“Yeah. I think that’ll be hard to decide. I don’t think I’d be able to tell you,” Tagovailoa continued. “But, you know, I think what we’re looking at is the CT scan that I have, not this upcoming Monday, but the following Monday. That would be three months (from his surgery), so it’d be 12 weeks. Depending on how good that looks, you know, then we’d get the feedback, where, you know, okay you’re right on track or you know we got to kind of wait a little longer. So, depending on the information we get from the CT scan and MRI from the doctors, hoping for the best.”

Tua isn’t the only one hoping for the best when it comes to these upcoming medical exams as franchises like the Miami Dolphins, the Los Angeles Chargers and the Carolina Panthers could all potentially be landing spots at the top of the 2020 NFL Draft for the signal-caller for Alabama. In the NFL, you have next to no shot at winning a Super Bowl without a franchise signal-caller and, when healthy, Tagovailoa has all the tools at his disposal to develop into the next great NFL quarterback.
