Tua Tagovailoa is coming off a career-high season for the Miami Dolphins. Now, he’s looking at a potential long-term extension to remain with the franchise.
In his 4th NFL season, Tagovailoa produced his best — and healthiest — season to date. After appearing in 26 regular-season games across the 2021-22 season, Tagovailoa started all 17 games this past season while leading the NFL with 4,624 passing yards.
On Friday, he addressed the potential of a long-term contract with the Dolphins. According to ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques, Tagovailoa appeared confident a deal would be worked out this offseason.
“There’s been communication,” Tagovailoa told ESPN. “I think the thing with that right now is I’m just letting the team talk to my agent and let them work that out.”

Tagovailoa is currently lined up to be with the Dolphins in the 2024 season after the franchise picked up his 5th-year rookie option. He has shined with head coach Mike McDaniel when healthy, though Tagovailoa posted the first 17-game season of his career in 2023.
Since entering the league as the No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Tagovailoa has gone 32-19 overall and 19-11 since McDaniel was hired in 2022. He has thrown for 3,500+ yards and at least 25 touchdowns in back-to-back seasons.
This past season, Tagovailoa led the NFL in passing yards and his 29 passing touchdowns tied for 5th. The former Alabama star led the Dolphins to an 11-6 record but would fall to the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs.
