Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins are in need of major help to make the NFL playoffs in 2024.

With their postseason destiny out of their hands, the Dolphins venture to Cleveland to face the Browns on Sunday in Week 17. And they could be doing so without Tagovailoa, who is doubtful thanks to a hip injury, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Tagovailoa has already missed time, of course, due to a concussion in Week 2, the fourth of his NFL career. He returned in Week 8, a 28-27 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. This season, he has thrown for 2,867 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions.

The Dolphins, meanwhile, could be eliminated from postseason contention regardless of their result against the Browns. Victories by both the Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos would knock the Dolphins out of the wild card race. Even if the Dolphins win and one of those teams loses, the Dolphins’ playoff hopes would remain thin.

If Tagovailoa isn’t able to play, the team will turn to Tyler Huntley, who has made 3 appearances this season. Miami was 1-2 in games started by him earlier in 2024 as he stood in for the injured Tagovailoa.
