Dolphins open to playing Tua Tagovailoa during his rookie season in the NFL

The talk of Tua Tagovailoa redshirting in his debut NFL season may be premature.
According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins are at least considering playing the rookie quarterback this season — if he earns his way on to the field.
One person who spoke to the Dolphins’ front office came away with the impression that while it’s likely Fitzpatrick will begin the season as the starter, Miami isn’t opposed to playing Tagovailoa as a rookie if he earns the opportunity at some point this season.
Of course, that may be easier said than done.
Tagovailoa will be competing against NFL veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick, who just so happens to have years of experience in offensive coordinator Chan Gailey’s system. In addition to that hurdle, Tagovailoa won’t have the benefit of a typical NFL offseason to gain knowledge of the professional game and much time to work with his new teammates due to the coronavirus cutting short NFL offseason programs.
Meanwhile, Tagovailoa continues to rehab his way back from his broken hip.
All in all, while the deck may be stacked against Tua, it would be unwise to bet against the former All-American completely heading into his first NFL season.
