There’s currently no college quarterback playing at a higher level than Tua Tagovailoa. Even Nick Saban would tell you that — at least publicly.

Inside the walls of the Alabama football facility, it’s a different story, says the Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback. During the first regular season media availability of his Alabama career, Tagovailoa was asked a serious of questions about his fast start to the season.

After five games, Tagovailoa has thrown for 1,161 yards, 14 touchdowns with no interceptions and has completed 66 of 88 throws on the season. He’s also rushed for another 115 yards and two touchdowns and has yet to see the field in a single fourth quarter.

Here’s what Tagovailoa had to say when asked if he felt he has exceeded expectations, as Saban recently claimed when speaking of his starting quarterback.

“We are just trying to be 1-0 every week, we are just trying to win games, you know? I think that’s the focus,” Tagovailoa said. “Coach Saban said I exceeded his expectations. I don’t think I did. He has to be joking with you guys because that’s definitely not what Coach Saban tells us. There’s always room for improvement. Not only with Coach Saban but within our whole coaching staff and within ourselves, too. There’s always room for improvement.”

Now Tua is starting to sound like Saban, too. No wonder this appears to be a match made in college football heaven.
