There is a ton of smoke regarding Tua Tagovailoa’s potential return to Alabama in 2020 but until that news is officially announced, the main concern with the Crimson Tide signal-caller is his health and getting him back to 100 percent.
It’s been over a month since Tagovailoa injured his hip and broke his nose on the field against Mississippi State but according to Nick Saban, while it’s going to take some time before the quarterback is close to 100 percent, the rehab process is going very well early on in Tuscaloosa.
“He’s doing well, everything so far has been really really good in terms of his rehab and the progress that he’s making,” Saban said in a Wednesday morning interview with ESPN. “But this is a work in progress and it’s going to take a lot of time and he’s been working really, really hard and our medical staff has done a fabulous job with him from Day One of the injury to the surgery to how the rehab is gone.”
That’s great news for Tagovailoa, who not only has to deal with a grueling rehab process but is currently wrestling with arguably the toughest decision of his young life. The NFL likely doesn’t know what to make of Tagovailoa at this point until he can prove how healthy he is following his hip injury and that time is going to come well after the deadline for declaring for the 2020 NFL Draft.
That deadline will arrive on Jan. 20.
Until then, the focus is getting healthy one day at a time for Alabama’s outstanding quarterback.
