Tua Tagovailoa is not planning to retire despite sustaining another concussion in Miami’s Week 2 loss to Buffalo, according to a report.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport shared that news on Sunday morning. His report says that Tagovailoa has already begun the process of seeing concussion specialists with the goal of eventually getting back on the field.

“My understanding is that Tua Tagovailoa has no plans to retire,” Rapoport said Sunday. “His eyes are on returning to the football field. As far as when that goes, we simply do not know … He has already begun the process of seeing concussion specialists, as he did in 2022.

“The goal is to get on the field when he is ready.”

Rapoport also said Tagovailoa’s doctors will be “driving the process” as he recovers from this concussion.

Tagovailoa has dealt with concussion issues throughout his pro career, including multiple times during the 2022 campaign. The former Alabama star was able to stay healthy for the entire 2023 campaign, which helped him earn a new contract this past offseason. But this latest concussion has cast some doubt — at least from the outside — about his playing future.

Nick Saban and Manti Te’o are amongst those who have commented on Tagovailoa’s future since he went down on Thursday Night Football.

Tagovailoa signed a 4-year, $216 million extension with Miami earlier this offseason. The deal includes approximately $167 million in guaranteed money.
