Tua Tagovailoa reportedly agrees to lucrative contract extension with Dolphins
Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins have agreed to a new deal, according to multiple reports.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was first to share that news on Friday afternoon. Tagovailoa is set to earn an impressive $212.4 million over the course of 4 years. That equates to just north of $53 million annually, which makes Tagovailoa the third-highest paid quarterback (on an annual basis) behind only Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence.

Sources tell me and @MikeGarafolo they’ve agreed to terms on 4-year, $212.4M contract extension to lock him in long-term. At long-last, Miami’s franchise QB is paid like it. pic.twitter.com/rW5sTJzBQo

The deal includes $167 million in guaranteed money, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Prior to this agreement, Tagovailoa was set to play on the final year of his rookie contract in 2024.
Tagovailoa has battled some notable injuries throughout his career, including a series of concussions. However, he was healthy in 2023 and led the Dolphins to an 11-6 record while playing in all 17 regular-season games. He threw for a league-leading 4,624 yards in 2023 as Miami had one of the best offenses in the NFL.
Miami’s 11 regular-season wins in 2023 were the most for the franchise since 2008. However, the Dolphins bowed out in the wildcard round of the playoffs on a frigid night in Kansas City. With this new contract now official, Tagovailoa will be tasked with leading Miami beyond the wildcard round for the first time since 2000.
Tagovailoa is currently +1100 at FanDuel to repeat as the NFL’s leader in passing yards next season.
