It hasn’t taken long for Tua Tagovailoa to impress in Miami Dolphins training camp. The former Alabama quarterback showed off his arm strength on Monday, launching a deep ball for Malcolm Perry. The connection resulted in a 69-yard touchdown strike.
The official Twitter account for the Miami Dolphins shared a clip of Tagovailoa’s nice pass:

The pass to Perry was one of 3 touchdowns on the day for Tagovailoa. Still, according to the Miami Herald, while Tagovailoa has impressed he isn’t quite in the discussion yet to be Miami’s Week 1 starter:
The rookie has not done enough to inject himself in the starting battle, but he has made a handful of throws in the past week that confirm why he’s an elite NFL prospect.
…
On Tagovailoa’s other passes during the first set of 11-on-11 drills, he delivered a slant pass to Mack Hollins for a completion and another to Ricardo Louis (the ball fluttered because of the wind). Linebacker Kamu-Grugier Hill broke up one Tagovailoa pass.
During the second set of 11-on-11s, Tagovailoa completed a 4-yard pass to Hollins and then threw an incompletion.
Tagovailoa’s campaign to be the Miami starter is presumably hurt by the lack of preseason games in this atypical NFL offseason. Miami opens against the New England Patriots on Sept. 13.
