Georgia has had a red-hot month of June on the recruiting trail, and on Monday, Kirby Smart‘s staff showed that it extends beyond the 2026 recruiting class.
Hours after landing elite 2026 defensive lineman PJ Dean, the Bulldogs picked up a verbal pledge for a highly touted prospect in the 2027 class. Donte Wright Jr. is on the board for UGA.
Out of Long Beach (California) Poly, Wright is listed as currently measuring 6-2 and 170 pounds. On the 247Sports Composite, Wright is rated 4-stars, the No. 9 player in the state of California, No. 10 cornerback and No. 82 prospect overall in the Class of 2027.
It’s early in the Class of 2027, but Wright has 20 scholarship offers so far. Arkansas, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Tennessee are among the programs to express early interest.
Wright told Hayes Fawcett of On3 that he chose Georgia over Oregon, USC and Texas A&M.
Wright is the second commit in Georgia’s 2027 class and first on the defensive side of the ball. Interestingly, both pledges are California kids. Wright joins Gavin Honore, a wide receiver from Santa Ana, California.
