Grant Gunnell, a quarterback from Houston, was once committed to Texas A&M as a member of its 2019 recruiting class. However, he later decommitted and instead decided to go to Arizona.
Robert Congel, an offensive lineman from Englewood, Colo., also was a Texas A&M commit, and he ended up playing for the Aggies in 2017. However, he then transferred to Arizona.
Now, both Gunnell and Congel may be leaving the Wildcats and going on the move.
According to AL.com’s Matt Zenitz, Gunnell and Congel each entered the NCAA transfer portal on Thursday, meaning they could be on their way out of Arizona. It doesn’t come as much of a surprise, considering the Wildcats went 0-5 this season and then fired head coach Kevin Sumlin (who was previously the head coach at Texas A&M from 2012-17).
Gunnell played eight games as a true freshman for Arizona in 2019, passing for 1,239 yards, nine touchdowns and one interception. In four games this season, he passed for 625 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions.
Congel played five games during his freshman year at Texas A&M in 2017, then missed 2018 due to transferring to Arizona, as he followed Sumlin to the Wildcats. He played in 10 games in 2019, making eight starts, then played in all five games this season.
Now, it appears both Gunnell and Congel could be heading to new schools and beginning a new chapter of their college careers.
