UAB opened its 2021 schedule in Montgomery, Ala. on Wednesday night, facing off against FCS Jacksonville State from the ASUN Conference. The Gamecocks weren’t expected to pose much of an issue to the Blazers, and things went according to plan as UAB opened up a 24-0 lead after 3 quarters.
And despite it being Week 1, UAB junior Jermaine Brown Jr. found himself on the early season highlight reel. After a 42-yard Tyler Johnson III pass to Trea Shropshire put the Blazers at the Jacksonville State 10 yard line, Brown found himself in the end zone, delivering a stiff arm to a Gamecocks defender to extend the lead to 24-0 following the extra point.

The Blazers defeated the Gamecocks 31-0, but will face a much bigger challenge on Sept. 11 as they travel to Sanford Stadium to visit Georgia. It will be the first meeting between the 2 schools since 2006.
