UCF has announced that offensive line coach Shawn Clark is currently in the hospital after experiencing a medical emergency. The statement from UCF Athletics also said that Clark is in stable condition and further updates will be provided as appropriate.
Here’s a look at what UCF put out:
The 50-year-old Clark is in his first season as an assistant coach at UCF.
Prior to this season, the West Virginia native most recently served in various roles at his alma mater Appalachian State, including as head coach from 2020-2024. Having supplanted current Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz, Clark posted a 40-24 record during his time at the helm of the Mountaineers. Clark guided Appalachian State to 4 bowl games, with 3 victories in those postseason contests. Clark’s winningest campaign was when Appalachian State went 10-4 in 2021 and won the Sun Belt East division.
Clark has also been an assistant at Louisville, Eastern Kentucky, Purdue, and Kent State. Clark played as an offensive lineman at Appalachian State from 1994-98.
UCF is off to a 2-0 start this season after defeating Jacksonville State and NC A&T at home. Next up for UCF is a home contest vs. North Carolina (1-1) on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on FOX.
