UCF issues snarky comment following UMBC’s historic NCAA Tournament upset of Virginia

The UCF offseason of trying to stay relevant marches on with the latest effort coming after UMBC’s huge win Friday night.

If you missed the game, #16 seed University of Maryland, Baltimore County beat #1 seed Virginia in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament in a game that could not have even been defined as a fluke. UMBC beat the top seed by 20 points after controlling the entire second half of the contest.

This result was the first time in the history of the tournament that a #16 seed knocked off a #1 seed. In fact, Virginia was the No. 1 overall seed in the field of 68 and head coach Tony Bennett won National Coach of the Year honors this season, which only add to the nature of the historic upset.

Of course, it wasn’t long after the game ended that UCF issued a statement on the fact that a lower seed beat the odds in the basketball tournament. Coming off an undefeated season, which did not garner an opportunity to compete in the College Football Playoff, here’s what UCF said following the UMBC win:
