UGA family sticks together: Zamir White receives encouragement from former Bulldogs that have gone thru injury
The news was all positive for Zamir White entering training camp. The freshman running back had put in his rehab time and was fully cleared for his first fall camp as a Bulldog with teammates buzzing about his performance.
Then all the buzz went away following a single play. White tore his other ACL after rehabbing his other knee all winter and spring. While that development is tragic, the freshman back has vowed to return once again.
His Bulldog family, ranging from current players to all-time greats, have offered up their support as he begins another grueling rehab process. According to Kirby Smart, Georgia players that have gone through similar injuries have reached out to support White.
“Zamir is great. I know several players have talked to him,” Smart said during his latest media availability. “Malcolm Mitchell has been around here and talked to him about his issue. Nick (Chubb) reached out to him and talked to him. Todd (Gurley) reached out to him and talked to him, a lot of guys have talked to him. He’s in great spirits. He still sits in on meetings and been really positive.
“We’ve got a great family atmosphere. Those (running) backs all care about him. He understands. That’s the one thing about once you know what you’re headed for, before you have no idea of the road you’re headed down. He’s done this once. He knows he can come back and will get after it.”
It’s great to see players that have suffered the same misfortune encourage White and show him that this is simply a roadblock on the path to greatness down the road. Coming from arguably the best running back in school history and the NFL’s best running back entering the 2018 season has to be special for White. Hopefully, the encouragement pushes him to get back and fully healthy once again for an epic comeback in 2019.
