The Weekly Winners contest on Underdog is a unique fantasy football format that rewards players for having the highest-scoring team each week. This means that you need to be focused on drafting players who have the potential to score big points, even if they’re not the most consistent performers.
The first-place finisher each week (Weeks 1-17 of the 2023 NFL season) will win $20,000. However, in a pool of 261,000 players, the top 7,315 finishers each week will earn at least $10. Each entry is $15 and users can enter up to 150 times.
So what strategies should you use in your Weekly Winners drafts? And how should those strategies differ from normal best ball drafts? We’ll break it all down in this article!

Weekly Winners draft strategies to use
- Ignore traditional roster builds: In a traditional best ball contest, it’s a good idea to have a minimum of 2 quarterbacks and tight ends, 5 running backs and 7 wide receivers. However, in the Weekly Winners contest, you can win even if you don’t have a complete roster. This means that you can focus on drafting the best players available, regardless of their position.
- Stack bye weeks: This is a risky strategy, but it can pay off big time if it works. By stacking players who have the same bye week, you can ensure that you’ll have a full roster every week except for that one. That gives you 16 better chances to win in a 17-week contest.
- Draft for upside: In the Weekly Winners contest, you’re not just looking for players who will score a lot of points every week. You’re also looking for players who have the potential to score a lot of points in one week. These are the players who can win you your league. A player with the potential to score 25-30 points one week might be more valuable to your roster than a player who consistently averages 10-15 points every week.
- Don’t be afraid to take risks: The Weekly Winners contest is a high-variance format, which means that you need to be willing to take risks. If you play it too safe, you’re not going to win. So don’t be afraid to draft players who are unproven or who have injury histories. Especially in the late rounds, drafting deep sleepers can help build variance on your roster.
Those aren’t the only strategies players can use in the Weekly Winners tournament. These are some more advanced strategies to employ during your Weekly Winners drafts:
- Stack divisions: This is a variation on the bye week stacking strategy. By stacking players from the same division, you can increase your chances of having a good week when those teams play each other.
- Game stack: This is a strategy where you draft players who are playing against each other in the same week. This can be a risky strategy, but if it works, it can pay off big time.
- Draft for weather: If you’re willing to do some research, you can draft players who are likely to play in favorable weather conditions late in the season. This can give you an edge over your opponents.
Ultimately, the best draft strategy for the Weekly Winners contest is the one that you feel the most comfortable with. Experiment with different strategies and see what works best for your style of play.
Here are some additional tips for drafting in the Weekly Winners contest:
- Pay attention to the scoring system: The scoring system in the Weekly Winners contest is different from most other fantasy football formats. Make sure you understand how the scoring system works before you start drafting.
- Do your research: The more research you do, the better prepared you’ll be to draft a winning team. Pay attention to player news and injury reports.
- Be flexible: Things don’t always go according to plan in best ball drafts. Be prepared to adjust your strategy on the fly if necessary.
With a little planning and effort, you can draft a team that can win you real money in the Weekly Winners contest on Underdog. So don’t be afraid to take some risks and go for it!
