In an offense as multifaceted as Dan Mullen’s uptempo attack at Mississippi State, serious depth is needed at the skill positions, notably versatile athletes who can do a little bit of everything as athletic playmakers.

The Bulldogs coaching staff believes three-star Deddrick Thomas fits the bill, one of five players who has already signed with Mississippi State for the 2015 cycle.

Known as ‘Sweet Feet’ at Memphis Central High, Thomas became a household name among several Power 5 programs last summer during ‘The Opening’ combine at Nike HQ in Oregon when he impressed scouts with natural explosiveness at wide receiver.

Billy Gonzales was Thomas’ primary recruiter and he envisions the 5-foot-9, 170-pound athlete starring in the slot, similar to the role Jameon Lewis has played for the Bulldogs. Thomas picked Mississippi State over offers from Louisville, Cincinnati, Memphis and Ole Miss among others.

“They get their slots involved,” Thomas said in an interview with 247Sports. “Get them a couple of sweeps and all that type of stuff. They’re really a passing team. They throw the ball a lot so I think they can feed me the ball.”
