UNLV lost starting QB Matthew Sluka for the season last week by his own accord. The former Holy Cross QB cited an NIL dispute with the school, claiming they offered him $100K in NIL funds to play for the Rebels this season. UNLV reportedly didn’t deliver, and now must soldier on without their standout QB.

Well, it sure doesn’t look like the Rebels have missed a beat. UNLV’s new quarterback, Hajj-Malik Williams, wasted no time finding the end zone.

He kept it himself to give UNLV a 7-0 lead over Fresno State Saturday afternoon:

UNLV kept it rolling, too. The Rebels now lead Fresno State – a solid team with a 3-1 record this season – 14-0 after the first quarter.

Williams has got it done as a passer and a rusher so far. He’s 4/6 for 50 yards and has rushed for 17 yards plus the above touchdown.

Before he landed at UNLV Williams played for Campbell, an FCS program located in North Carolina. He was a solid passer for the Camels, throwing for 2,604 yards, 19 touchdowns and 8 interceptions at a 70% completion rate. So, the 6th-year senior is no slouch when it comes to playing the college game.

UNLV was a very real contender for the G5 College Football Playoff spot a week ago today. As of today, it appears they still are.
