Urban Meyer claims LSU fan dumped urine on him ahead of 2007 Florida-LSU game
Urban Meyer shared a harrowing story from his time as Florida’s head coach on Wednesday.
According to Meyer, an LSU fan threw a cup of urine on him before Florida’s 2007 game against the Tigers in Baton Rouge.
Meyer told the story on the Triple Option podcast with Rob Stone and Mark Ingram. He was asked to recall the “most intimidating stadium to enter” — specifically the walk from the locker room to the field.
Here’s how Meyer told the story:
“As we entered the stadium in 2007 … it’s maybe a 10-foot wide walkway as you walk in that damn stadium. I mean, nasty. Saying things, mean looking. This one guy just yelling, staring right at me, and he’s right off to my left. And I have two police officers with me as I’m walking in there and our players, we kind of warned them to stay away from that nonsense.”
“One guy is holding a cup and as I get closer to him, and we make eye contact and he’s just screaming at me and I wanted to take a swing at the guy but right then he takes it and he dumps it on me. I thought it was a beer and I dropped my bags and I go after him. One cop grabs me and one cop kind of goes after him but it’s a chain link fence and he just disappears right behind it. And the players saw it. We go in and I lost my mind. Then I’m like, ‘Wait a minute. I thought that was beer.’ Mark, it didn’t smell like beer …”
“It was warm and yellow, though,” Stone added.
Unfortunately for Meyer and the Gators, there was no revenge that season. LSU beat Florida 28-24 in Baton Rouge that day and then went on to win the national championship as well.
However, Florida would go on to win back-to-back games against LSU — including a 13-3 victory in Baton Rouge in 2009.
