These surprise scholarship announcements are always great and Utah recently found a truly creative way to announce a new scholarship for one of the team’s walk-on players.

If you didn’t know, Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo has a son, Ali’i Niumatalolo, that plays for the Utes as a walk-on. During a Utah team meeting, head coach Kyle Whittingham presented his team with a video featuring Coach Niumatalolo and his Navy team wishing Utah a good upcoming season.

Also, father got to inform his son that Utah has awarded a new scholarship.

In case you were wondering, Ali’i Niumatalolo is far more than a camp body and being the son of Navy’s coach had nothing to do with this scholarship offer. Ali’i Niumatalolo has appeared 21 games in the previous two seasons at Utah and has earned it with his hard work after walking on with the Utes back in 2016.
