Vanderbilt is still on top of the world after the historic upset against Alabama last week. Entering that game, the Commodores had never beaten the No. 1 team and were 0-60 against Top 5 teams.

The upset was arguably the biggest in the history of the SEC.

The Commodores’ social media team posted a video showcasing some behind-the-scenes moments of the upset. One of those moments included coach Clark Lea’s halftime speech as the Commodores led Alabama 23-14.

“You’re ready to close this game,” Lea told his team. “There’s nothing extra here. It doesn’t take anything extra. The game is yours, guys. You (expletive) set it up on a tee, now go take it.”

Lea is a graduate of Vanderbilt, but started his collegiate career playing baseball at Birmingham Southern and then Belmont. He left Belmont to go to Vanderbilt where he played fullback the last 2 years.

He is currently in his 4th season as the coach, and the Commodores have showed improvement in terms of competing. However, they hadn’t gotten that win that jumpstarts a program. Lea and Vanderbilt got that last weekend, and will look to build off that when they travel to Lexington to play Kentucky on Saturday.
