Vanderbilt’s Week 5 opponent will likely be without its leading receiver
After giving up 37 points in a loss to South Carolina last Saturday, Vanderbilt’s defense can rest a little easier this week.
Tennessee State, the Commodores’ upcoming opponent, will likely be without top receiver Chris Rowland, according to a report from The Tennessean. Tennessee State coach Rod Reed said Rowland is “very doubtful” to play after the junior sustained a chest contusion against Eastern Illinois last week.
Rowland is the Tigers’ leading receiver with 15 catches, 236 yards and a score. Tennessee State was already missing its returning rushing leader, so Rowland’s injury gives Vanderbilt one more proven threat it won’t have to account for this week.
The Commodores (2-2) will certainly be looking for a bounce-back win when they host Tennessee State (2-0) at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday.
