The Vanderbilt athletics department announced Saturday morning that true freshman Wade Freebeck will start at quarterback against Kentucky.

Freebeck will make his second career start in the showdown with the Cats. He started in the Commodores’ game against UMass two weeks ago, but was benched after one quarter in favor of sophomore Patton Robinette, who led Vandy to its only win of the season on that day.

Robinette was listed as Vandy’s No. 1 quarterback on coach Derek Mason’s depth chart at the beginning of the week, but his status for the game against Kentucky remained questionable all week after he suffered a concussion last week against South Carolina. Robinette has been officially ruled out for the game.

For his career, Freebeck is 12 of 22 passing for 171 yards, with 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions.
